How we calculate this

This calculator itemizes every Etsy fee on a single order — the $0.20 listing fee, the 6.5% transaction fee (which applies to shipping and gift wrap too, not just the item), US payment processing at 3% + $0.25, and Offsite Ads at 15% or 12% — then shows the total as a percentage of the order and what you actually keep. A monthly roll-up scales it across your sales and relistings.

The formulas
Order total (the fee base)
item price + shipping charged + gift wrapEtsy’s transaction and processing fees apply to the whole order total, excluding US sales tax.
Transaction fee
6.5% × order total (2.5% on Share & Save orders)
Payment processing (US)
3% × order total + $0.25
Offsite Ads fee
15% × order total (under $10k/yr, optional) or 12% (over $10k/yr, mandatory), capped at $100 per order
Total fees and profit
$0.20 listing + transaction + processing + Offsite Ads; profit = order total − total fees − your cost
Monthly roll-up
per-order fees × monthly sales + $0.20 × relistings not tied to a sale
Worked example
  1. Say you sell a $28 item with $5 shipping charged, no gift wrap, no Offsite Ad, and your product plus shipping cost is $10.
  2. The order total is $33, so the transaction fee = 6.5% × $33 = $2.15 (of which $0.33 is charged on the shipping alone).
  3. Payment processing = 3% × $33 + $0.25 = $1.24, plus the $0.20 listing fee.
  4. Total Etsy fees = $0.20 + $2.15 + $1.24 = $3.59 — 10.9% of the order.
  5. Profit per order = $33 − $3.59 − $10 = $19.42.
  6. At 50 sales a month that is $179.25 in Etsy fees; if the same order came through Offsite Ads at 12%, the fee stack would jump to 22.9% of the order.
Rates, benchmarks & sources
  • Listing fee $0.20 per listing/renewal, transaction fee 6.5% (2.5% Share & Save), US payment processing 3% + $0.25, Offsite Ads 15% under $10k/yr (optional) and 12% over $10k/yr (mandatory) capped at $100 per order etsy.com/legal/fees (verified for this build)

What this tool doesn’t model
  • Platform fees change — this schedule was verified against etsy.com/legal/fees for this build; check Etsy’s current fee policy before repricing your shop.
  • Uses US payment-processing rates; other countries have different percentage and fixed fees, and currency conversion adds more.
  • Does not model Etsy Ads (onsite advertising budgets), subscription fees like Etsy Plus, shipping-label costs, or VAT/sales-tax handling.
  • The monthly roll-up assumes every sale looks like the order you entered — a mix of prices and Offsite-Ad-attributed orders will land in between.
  • Assumes the 6.5% transaction fee base excludes US sales tax, per Etsy’s published policy.

Frequently asked questions

Does Etsy really charge fees on my shipping too?

Yes — the 6.5% transaction fee applies to the full order total: item price plus shipping charged plus gift wrap (excluding US sales tax). On a $28 item with $5 shipping that is $0.33 of fee on the shipping alone. That is why "free shipping" with the cost built into the item price changes the math only slightly — the fee follows the total either way.

When is the Offsite Ads fee mandatory?

Per etsy.com/legal/fees, shops that made under $10,000 in the past 365 days can opt out and pay 15% on Offsite-Ad-attributed orders if they stay in; shops over $10,000 are enrolled mandatorily at 12%. The fee is capped at $100 per order. If you are over the threshold, price the 12% into your margins because you cannot decline it on attributed sales.

What is Share & Save and how much does it save?

Orders that arrive through your own shared links qualify for a reduced transaction fee of 2.5% instead of 6.5%, per Etsy’s fee policy. On a $33 order that is a saving of about $1.32. The calculator has a toggle so you can see both versions of the fee stack.

What percentage of an Etsy sale goes to fees overall?

It depends on your price and whether Offsite Ads apply. At the default $28 item + $5 shipping, baseline fees (listing, transaction, processing) run about 10.9% of the order; an Offsite-Ad sale at 12% pushes the total to roughly 22.9%. The fixed $0.20 listing fee and $0.25 processing fee weigh more on low-priced items, so cheap items lose a larger share.

Are these Etsy fees still current?

The rates in this tool were verified against etsy.com/legal/fees for this build, and the page shows the verification date. Etsy adjusts fees from time to time — the transaction fee and the Offsite Ads thresholds in particular are worth re-checking on Etsy’s fee policy page before you commit to a pricing strategy.
